A.VENKATESWARLU

This boy  also hails from the same village Kothapalli ( Christianpalem) He is 3 years old and has one elder brother and one elder sister. He comes from the dalit caste ( The caste considered to be the scheduled caste and downtrodden in our society). The parents of this boy are agricultural labourers and maintain the family with the very little daily wages. During agricultural un season, the parents migrate to some other place in search of work. They do have a small thatched hut and own no other property.

On 26th October 1996, a cyclone warning was given and the government was busy in evacuating the people living in the coastal area of Prakasam district. As the village of this children is located 100 Kms away from the sea coast, no threat was declared for the people of this area. There was a heavy down pour of rain for 24 hours. The whole night it was heavily raining. Suddenly in the mid night hours the minor reservoir which is just adjacent to this village breached at several places causing heavy flash floods. No person in the village expected such a sudden tragedy and the entire village was simply washed away within few hours. More than 350 people lost their lives in this village itself. The entire family members of this children lost their precious lives in the floods. These children were saved by catching hold of a tree which is at the side of their house and later on brought to a safer place by the survivors in the village.

During our relief operations in this village we saw the pathetic conditions of this children.   They were left in desperate situation having lost all their family members and looking  at people for a loving and affectionate hands. They looks are questioning “ Do we have a future?!. We took them in to our hands and made these children to experience the love, care and joy of their parents which they have lost and longing for. Presently this children are living a very happy, secured and comfortable life in the orphanage.
